The national volume was released in October 2003, in conjunction with nationwide publicity, a traveling exhibition of photographs and a compelling website gallery. The custom cover innovation, that allows any reader to put their own picture on the cover of a 24/7 book was touted by Oprah Winfrey on her annual "Oprah's Favorite Things" program.

In September 2004, DK published fifty new 24/7 books, one compelling volume about each of the 50 states. This is thought to be the largest-ever simultaneous release of a trade book series.
