Although dethroned by the 1,250-foot Empire State Building, many still consider the Chrysler Building to be the world's most beautiful skyscraper. Location: Oakland, California
Caption: The Oakland Women's Rowing Club gathers every Wednesday at 11 for an hour-long excursion on Lake Merritt near downtown Oakland. The club's 48 mothers and grandmothers, ranging in age from 53 to 96, still adhere to the dress code established by the founders. The Navy donated surplus whaleboats in 1916 when the club was founded but new vessels have since replaced the originals.
